The Emmaus campus is located on the west side of Dubuque, IA on twenty-four acres of gently rolling land. The main building includes classrooms, the Marble Chapel, the David A. Glock Auditorium, administrative and faculty offices, dormitories, the dining hall, library, student center, The Coffee Bean and more. Smith Hall contains a state-of the-art computer center, additional dormitories, business offices, and maintenance facilities. The Pollard Fieldhouse, attached to Smith Hall, offers two gymnasiums, a weight room, student center, and the Courtside Cafe.
Outdoor recreational facilities include spacious grounds for softball, football, soccer, and various winter sports. The gymnasiums offer facilities for basketball, volleyball, and other activities. The campus borders a public golf course that provides additional recreational opportunities. Ice-skating, down-hill skiing, and cross-country skiing are also available in the community.
One of the best parts of university is the experiences you'll have while living on the dorms, and that's no exception here at Emmaus!
Nearly all of our dormitories are single rooms, with the exception of two- to four-person suites available in Smith Hall. Each single room is outfitted with a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, sink, and medicine cabinet, as well as a closet and room for storage above the closet (click here for the dimensions of our single rooms). In Smith Hall, suites are equipped with beds, dressers, desks, desk chairs, and closets. Smith Hall suites are air conditioned, as well as each dorm room/suite has its own heating register and window.
Each hall has a common restroom facility including individual showers, toilets, and sinks. In addition to this, we have a fully-equipped, non coin operated laundry facility that is available for resident use.

Emmaus University is by design a historic residential university. As such, Emmaus desires to help form and educate the student both in and out of the classroom. While much learning happens within the classroom experience, it is the desire of the University for each of its students to learn personal accountability, develop lifelong relationships, and understand proper standards of living within a community. We believe that students living and learning together offers the best atmosphere and incubator of learning. Therefore, Emmaus requires all full-time (12 credits for more) students to live in the residence halls. Exceptions to this policy are:
- Married students
- Students living with parents, grandparents, or legal guardian.
- Students 24 years old or older prior to the start of the semester
- Students who are entering their 5th year in the Emmaus residence halls but are not yet 24 may apply for an exemption to the housing policy.
The University reserves the right to remove a student from university housing or relocate a student within university housing for unforeseen emergencies or due to behavioral concerns. Access to other university-owned facilities may also be restricted. Examples of behavior that could result in such removal or restrictions would be disruptive, rude, or threatening behavior or destruction of community/University property, and other violations of the Emmaus Student Handbook. The parents of the student may be notified of the student’s status.
Only students who are enrolled may live in the residence halls. Additionally, students enrolled but not attending classes may be asked to vacate the residence halls.
The Robbie Pile Dining Hall
For breakfast, lunch and dinner look no further than the Robbie Pile Dining Hall, our main dining facility. The heart of campus life, the dining hall is a great place for one on one meetings, or just time to hang out, relax and eat with your friends.
The dining hall features an all you can eat buffet; including entrees that vary daily, a fully stocked salad bar, as well as other healthy options.
In addition, the dining hall hosts special events and themed dinners throughout the year, making for fun times and adding a personal touch to the Emmaus Experience.
The Eagle's Nest
The Eagles's Nest, located in the Pollard Fieldhouse, offers a simple menu built on fresh ingredients and is committed to consistent and efficient service. Stop buy for a fresh salad, hand-pressed burger or chicken sandwich and a glass of sweet tea or hand squeezed lemonade! There’s also milkshakes and a soft-serve ice cream machine for those craving something sweet.
The Eagle’s Nest is a great place to come hang out with friends during the Emmaus Eagles games, as well as a place simply to relax by watching TV or doing homework.
The Coffee Bean
The Coffee Bean is our coffee shop, located in the main building, right between the library and student center. Stop by before class to grab a cup of coffee, or come by in the afternoon or evening to hang out, study or meet with your friends for a group project. The Coffee Bean offers many different types of coffee, espresso and coffee/espresso beverages as well as smoothies, teas, hot chocolate, etc.
At Emmaus, we purpose to provide our students with the resources they need to get the most out of their education. Take a look at the page below to see what sort of things you can take advantage of as a student at Emmaus.
Library Services
Our extensive Emmaus library includes approximately 120,000 books and bound periodicals as well as a number of electronic article databases. We also have an extensive children’s literature collection housed within the library to support the Elementary Education program.
A group of computer workstations available for student use is housed in the library. The Emmaus library is part of the OCLC Library Consortium providing students with access to resources at over 35,000 other libraries. Our library is the perfect environment for doing research, reading or studying! Just use our online catalog or ask our librarians; they are eager to help you find the information you need. (The library director may even let you into the chocolate stash in his office!)
In addition to our own library, Emmaus students have access to learning resources at five area libraries. Students may check out materials from Loras University, University of Dubuque, Wartburg Seminary, Carnegie-Stout Public Library, and the Dubuque County Library.
Computer Workstation Access
We have two computer workstation locations available on campus. The computer classroom is located in Smith Hall and is equipped with a printer, and PCs all running Windows 11, and available for student use. Additional computers for student use are available in the library. Internet access is available campus wide.
Academic Success Center (ASC)
Students who need assistance in their studies are encouraged to seek out the Academic Success Center (ASC). ASC provides peer-tutoring services in writing, math, science, and other topics as needed. All tutoring is free-of-charge.
Disability Services
Emmaus University seeks to ensure that qualified individuals with disabilities receive equal access to all university services, activities, facilities, and privileges. Reasonable academic accommodations will be made on an individual basis by application. Learn more about disability services at Emmaus.
Emmaus University is committed to creating an attractive, safe campus environment conducive to learning and spiritual and personal growth. During business hours, our front entrance is manned by a receptionist and the remainder of facility entrances are only accessible by keycard access; in addition to this, men and women occupy separate dormitory floors that can only be accessed by the student entering his or her specific ID number. There are two Resident Assistants on duty every evening in case of an emergency, and a night watchman on patrol each night.
In compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics, Emmaus University publishes an annual security report for current and prospective students and employees. This report contains important safety information, and fire and crime statistics for the previous three years. These statistics pertain to reported crimes that have occurred on campus and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. Copies of this report may be requested electronically from the Office of Student Life at ichavez@emmaus.edu. Printed copies of this report are available in the Office of Campus Safety and Security and Office of Student Life.
In areas of security please report all violations promptly to the Dean for Student Life (Israel Chavez: ichavez@emmaus.edu), or the Director of Facilities Management (Jeremy Mau: jmau@emmaus.edu).
