Programs in Teacher Education
Our teacher education program provides both a solid theoretical foundation for teaching and learning as well as ample opportunities in elementary and secondary school classrooms to develop the requisite skills for effective teaching and learning. After you design your first unit of instruction in an introductory lesson design course, you then spend an entire week teaching those standards-based lessons in an actual K-12 classroom. You also participate in a year-long, senior-year placement during which teacher candidates spend about 70 hours in the first semester getting to know the students and school routines and then 560 hours in the following semester mastering the craft of teaching.

My years at Emmaus were some of the most enjoyable and rewarding years of my life. Not only was I able to learn more about my future career, but I was also able to enjoy learning more about God's word. The faculty members were very personal and gave much care and attention to the students in the education program. They taught in a way that made learning fun and achievable. This field experience helped me to feel prepared to take on my career in the elementary classroom.

As a teacher, Emmaus provided me with a foundation of Biblical learning which prepared me for ministry both inside and outside of the classroom. Elementary Education has been a wonderful career choice for me and the benefit of double-majoring in theology is that I have been better able to serve in my local church and in other para-church ministries. My fondest memories of Emmaus include the many friendships, the community, and the ministry opportunities I was introduced to during my time there.
