Student Services

The Emmaus campus is located on the west side of Dubuque, IA on twenty-four acres of gently rolling land. The main building includes classrooms, the Marble Chapel, the David A. Glock Auditorium, administrative and faculty offices, dormitories, the dining hall, library, student center, The Coffee Bean and more. Smith Hall contains a state-of the-art computer center, additional dormitories, business offices, and maintenance facilities. The Pollard Fieldhouse, attached to Smith Hall, offers two gymnasiums, a weight room, student center, and the Courtside Cafe.

Outdoor recreational facilities include spacious grounds for softball, football, soccer, and various winter sports. The gymnasiums offer facilities for basketball, volleyball, and other activities. The campus borders a public golf course that provides additional recreational opportunities. Ice-skating, down-hill skiing, and cross-country skiing are also available in the community.

Housing

One of the best parts of university is the experiences you'll have while living on the dorms, and that's no exception here at Emmaus!

Nearly all of our dormitories are single rooms, with the exception of two- to four-person suites available in Smith Hall.  Each single room is outfitted with a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, sink, and medicine cabinet, as well as a closet and room for storage above the closet (click here for the dimensions of our single rooms).  In Smith Hall, suites are equipped with beds, dressers, desks, desk chairs, and closets. Smith Hall suites are air conditioned, as well as each dorm room/suite has its own heating register and window.

Each hall has a common restroom facility including individual showers, toilets, and sinks. In addition to this, we have a fully-equipped, non coin operated laundry facility that is available for resident use.

Resident Dorm Policy

Emmaus University is by design a historic residential university. As such, Emmaus desires to help form and educate the student both in and out of the classroom. While much learning happens within the classroom experience, it is the desire of the University for each of its students to learn personal accountability, develop lifelong relationships, and understand proper standards of living within a community. We believe that students living and learning together offers the best atmosphere and incubator of learning. Therefore, Emmaus requires all full-time (12 credits for more) students to live in the residence halls. Exceptions to this policy are:

  • Married students
  • Students living with parents, grandparents, or legal guardian.
  • Students 24 years old or older prior to the start of the semester
  • Students who are entering their 5th year in the Emmaus residence halls but are not yet 24 may apply for an exemption to the housing policy.

The University reserves the right to remove a student from university housing or relocate a student within university housing for unforeseen emergencies or due to behavioral concerns. Access to other university-owned facilities may also be restricted. Examples of behavior that could result in such removal or restrictions would be disruptive, rude, or threatening behavior or destruction of community/University property, and other violations of the Emmaus Student Handbook. The parents of the student may be notified of the student’s status.

Only students who are enrolled may live in the residence halls. Additionally, students enrolled but not attending classes may be asked to vacate the residence halls.
